Railcar Awning
Completion: November 2014
Project Description:
Controlling moisture in sand storage and handling systems is critical to maintaining proper flow through equipment and silos. In the railcar unloading area, drive-thru unloading buildings can be used to prevent precipitation from getting in the sand, and this client came to Redpoint with this need, but with a unique requirement–the rail spacing did not allow for building columns between the rail tracks.
Redpoint answered the client’s needs with a cantilevered railcar awning structure, effectively providing the weather protection while only being anchored to one side of the rail tracks. The structure used a space frame support “column” with a sloped roof, trimmed out in metal building panels.
The project proved to be a true testament of Redpoint’s ability to successfully execute a project from concept to closeout, which included project planning, engineering, detailing, material supply and installation.
