Limestone Storage Silos

Completion: January 2013

Project Description:

As government air quality regulations in the power generating industries go into effect, the generating stations must take action to comply. Many stations must install additional air scrubber technologies in order to increase the efficiency of their SO2 removal from the flue gases.

These (2) 21’ diameter x 40’ tall, skirted limestone silos supported by steel structures were part of the limestone slurry preparation system, and were to provide an inventory of limestone for feeding to a ball mill grinding system. Each silo was to be equipped with limestone dust collectors, vibratory bin bottoms, and local instrumentation for operation, monitoring, and control of the system. The silos were built at grade utilizing “dummy” rings to allow the silo hoppers to be fully installed prior to craning the tanks into their final location.

Redpoint carried out project management on both limestone silos and associated equipment. An important component in this process was ensuring clean integration between, silos, equipment, and supporting structure. Project management on power plant projects is, and will continue, to be a niche for the Redpoint team.
